Cancer Lifeline South West (CLSW) is preparing for a day of laughter, entertainment, and community spirit as it hosts its first ever Family Fun Day on Sunday 27th April, in the name of community and fundraising.
The event will take place in the beautiful grounds of Ugbrooke House, near Newton Abbot, and promises a packed programme of activities for all ages.
Since its founding in 2002, CLSW has provided therapeutic ‘Time to Retune’ breaks for people who have completed cancer treatment, along with their primary carers. These breaks offer much-needed opportunity to process their experience and start looking to the future. This support is provided free of charge, and with no public funding, so the charity relies on fundraising, sponsorship, and donations.
Visitors to the Family Fun Day can look forward to live music, an entertaining dog show, exciting sports demonstrations, and taster sessions, along with plenty of surprises throughout the day. Taking place at the end of the Easter holidays and the start of the spring and summer season, the event is expected to attract guests from across the south west.
“One in two of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime, and almost everyone knows someone who has been impacted by it,” said Donna Cook, Chair of Trustees. “The feedback we receive shows how valuable these breaks are for attendees, as well as for their families, friends, and colleagues. We hope this Family Fun Day will help us raise much-needed funds to continue offering this vital service.”
CLSW is actively seeking sponsors and supporters to help cover the event costs, ensuring that all funds raised on the day go directly towards running the ‘Time to Retune’ breaks.
The charity is thrilled that Alexander and Lucy Clifford have donated the grounds of Ugbrooke House for the day, and that Newton Abbot Rotary Club will be managing the car parking. Trustee and event organiser Kate McCormick said, “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our partners and the community. Organising an event like this takes a lot of hard work, but we know it will be worth it when we see families coming together and having fun. Now we just need the sunshine to make it even more special.”
