What We Do
The Need
Established in 2002, we provide therapeutic ‘Time to Retune’ breaks for those diagnosed with cancer and their carers or family to provide support to those at the end of cancer treatment.
The founders of CLSW recognised that when treatment ends, it is psychologically profoundly difficult for both the person who went through cancer treatment and also for the person/people who have lived closely alongside.

It can feel like emotional free-fall and it is only at this point that the enormity of it all often hits people. It is a trauma, but for many it feels like they are expected to pick up their lives and work as if nothing has happened to them. This can have the effect of negating the life changing impact of cancer.

Our Services
A cancer diagnosis can have a far-reaching effect on people and their families. Post treatment is a time when people are expected to ‘get back to normal’, but for many ‘normal’ has changed.
The shock of the diagnosis and treatment wears off and the reality sets in. It can be a time when people feel isolated and alone. We offer 3 day residential breaks free of charge for cancer patients – on their own or with a relative or friend.
The breaks provide support for both patients and carers in dealing with common issues relating to living with life-threatening illness. Each break is facilitated by professional therapists and offers relaxation and meditation, as well as creative and therapeutic group work. They run 3-4 times per year, usually over a weekend, starting on Friday afternoon and finishing on Monday morning.
Our breaks are fully catered with nutritious home-cooked meals, with an emphasis on locally grown and, where possible, organic ingredients. The accommodation is simple but comfortable in places recognised for their tranquillity and beauty. We are currently lucky enough to be using Cadhay House in Ottery St Mary.
